“So we tell others about Christ, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all the wisdom God has given us. We want to present them to God, perfect in their relationship to Christ.” Colossians 1:28 NLT

God has given us a dedicated and unified team committed to serving the body of Christ. We all have different strengths and different backgrounds. We believe this is a plus.  We invite you to read our stories.

Bob Benthin (Pastoral Care Pastor)

Bob 1I am the pastoral care pastor at Lake Murray Community Church in La Mesa, California.  I was licensed by our church in 2002 through our Fellowship Pastor program. It is my goal to reach out with a shepherd’s heart to the needy, hurting and less fortunate with the truth of God’s Word and to come alongside those who need to be comforted and loved by the grace of God. I also wish to offer them hope and encouragement in the midst of changes and adjustments in their life and to build and equip them in their walk of faith, so that their lives would bring honor, glory, and praise to our Creator and Redeemer. And, most importantly, I pray that each person would know that they are loved, truly cared about, and important to me and our heavenly Father. To God be the Glory!

Marttell Sánchez (Pastor of Students & Outreach)

Marttell (also known as “Marty”) has been on pastoral staff since September of 2013. Originally, he oversaw the launch of our Hispanic ministry, but since January of 2015, Marttell has been overseeing our youth, young adults, and outreach ministries. His education includes a Bachelor of Arts in Biblical Studies (2012) and a Master of Arts in Christian Ministry (2017), both from Southern California Seminary. He is married to Sandra—his wife of 11 years—who is also on staff here at Lake Murray Christian Preschool. Together, they’ve been blessed by the Lord with two little boys. Marttell enjoys going on dates with his wife, training with his kids at their Brazilian Jiu Jitsu academy, having movie nights with his family, eating Mexican and Italian food, and drinking good coffee. You can frequently find him at Kaffee Meister in Santee or The Brew Coffee Spot in La Mesa. Feel free to track him down when you visit; he’d love to connect with you and get to know you in person.

Edwardo Silva (Associate Pastor of Spanish Ministries)

Edwardo and his wife, Gloria, along with their two beautiful children, joined the Lake Murray family in October of 2013, when our ministry to the Hispanic community was born. From the start, Edwardo has been a pillar in our Hispanic ministry. He is gifted with musical ability, and he also has a passion and strong reverence for the Word of God, making him a great teacher and expositor of God’s Word. He graduated in May of 2014 from San Diego Christian College with a B.A. in Christian Ministries, and in June of 2016 he officially became our Associate Pastor of Spanish Ministries. We are excited to see how the Lord will continue to use him in our ministry to the Hispanic community. Edwardo enjoys watching football and grilling out. He also loves inviting people over to his home for carne asada and pollo asado, and you’ll often find him manning the grill at church-wide events.

Sue Waugh (Administrator and Children’s Ministry Director)

Sue 1During my childhood years, I knew of God but did not really “know” Him. I would find myself asking, “Why am I here?” and “What is my purpose?” I remember pleading with God to prove to me that He existed so that I could settle my questioning heart.  I wanted my life to count for something, have a purpose worth living for.  God was tugging at my searching heart. It was time for me to reconcile myself to the Almighty Lord and Savior and turn to Him for validation of my existence and purpose.

Brian Neynaber (Music Director)

Hi, my name is Brian, and I have lived in San Diego my entire life. I have been leading the worship ministry at Lake Murray since July of 2013.  I have a degree in business management from SDSU, a major which helps me in my role here by improving the leadership and training skills needed to develop the worship ministry team and respond to people’s legitimate needs.  When I’m not playing music, you may find me hiking, playing tennis, riding my mountain bike, or spending time with family.  I am passionate about worship, and every week I look forward to joining with the church in the worship of our Lord in spirit and in truth.  Come and join in!
